Rhinoplasty Nose Job plastic surgery healing time
An extremely common question for those looking to get a rhinoplasty or a nose job is, “How long does it take to heal?” It is a great question, and the answer is in a couple of parts. I put together this video to walk you through the process.
How Long Does It Take Rhinoplasty To Heal?
When somebody comes in for a rhinoplasty or a nose job they want to know how long they need to take off for work or how long does it take for the nose to look good. And those are two separate questions with different answers.
So typically patients will take a week off from work or school while the nasal cast is on, which is a little piece of plastic that goes on the outside of the nose, and sometimes their are stitches at the bottom of the nose that will be in for a week.
Once the cast comes off and the stitches are removed, people can return to work or re turn school or normal daily activities essentially that same day.
Now, what happens is, with rhinoplasty, the nose is very swollen. That will take time to to resolve and so take a little while for the nose to look good and see the final result from the surgery. It can take up to a year or even longer for the nose to fully heal.
But after about 4 to 6 weeks (or if somebody has really thick skin on their nose it could take up to eight weeks) after that time the initial really big bad swelling will go down and people look pretty good.
But the first time really looking at post op pictures or before-and-after’s is even three months out from surgery. So it’s a long process but the way we think about it is that this is a lifetime of change and a lifetime of improvement. So it’s a little bit slow at first, and then over time it should be worth it.
